SMOKE DETECTORS

Equip your home with smoke alarms and other tools that can help you gain precious seconds in a fire.

HOME FIRE SAFETY

Smoke Detectors

One of the simplest yet most effective ways to protect your home and loved ones from fire is by installing smoke detectors.

Placement: Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas.

Maintenance: Test your smoke detectors monthly. Replace batteries at least once a year, and replace the entire unit every 10 years.

Types: Consider a combination of ionization and photoelectric smoke detectors, or dual-sensor alarms, to ensure comprehensive detection of both flaming and smoldering fires.

CO ALARMS

Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless gas that can be deadly. CO is produced by burning fuel in vehicles, small engines, stoves, lanterns, grills, fireplaces, gas ranges, or furnaces. CO alarms detect this dangerous gas and provide an early warning before it reaches life-threatening levels.

Placement: Install CO alarms in a central location outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home. Be sure to place them near any attached garages.

Maintenance: Test CO alarms monthly and replace the batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions. CO alarms typically need to be replaced every 5-7 years.

Symptoms of CO Poisoning: Be aware of the symptoms of CO poisoning, including headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. If your CO alarm sounds, move to fresh air immediately and call 911.
