Hazmat Incident

On Saturday morning at 5:45 a.m. Scott Fire Department was notified of a possible hazardous materials spill at a business located in the 200 block of N. Fieldspan Road.

Upon arrival, personnel observed liquid dripping from a box trailer with a flammable liquid placard, at which point Lafayette Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit was requested for assistance.

Personnel made entry into the trailer where they observed two, 275-gallon totes containing dimethylformamide, a flammable solvent. Personnel utilized a forklift to remove items form the trailer so that an assessment of the totes could be conducted.

An investigation revealed that a valve on one of the totes was leaking. Hazmat personnel were able to secure the valve and stop the leak. The scene was then turned over to a private contractor for clean-up.

Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit is investigating if any transportation violations occurred, causing the incident.

No evacuations or road closures were issued, and no firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the incident.
