Fire Incident

On Monday at 11:45 AM, the Scott Fire Department responded to a commercial fire alarm at 5511 Cameron Street, located at Scott Oaks Plaza. Upon arrival, firefighters observed water flowing from the sprinkler system at the Acadiana Jiu Jitsu business in the Piggly Wiggly Shopping Center.

Firefighters entered the premises and discovered a fire in a restroom, which the sprinkler system had extinguished. To minimize water damage, firefighters shut off the water supply to the sprinkler system and conducted an investigation into the fire's cause. An investigation revealed that a malfunctioning heating element within a sauna caused the fire, which the sprinkler system quickly brought under control and extinguished.

This incident serves as a prime example of the critical role fire sprinklers play in saving lives and reducing property damage. According to the US Fire Administration, the presence of fire sprinklers and smoke alarms reduces the risk of fire-related fatalities by 82 percent.
